Marcus Rashford's new goal is to get himself fit for England's summer games with his Aston Villa spell potentially over. The forward missed the FA Cup semi-final loss at the weekend and may not play again at Villa Park.

Rashford picked up a hamstring issue during last week's loss at Manchester City and, after undergoing tests, Unai Emery confirmed that the Englishman would be out for several weeks. With the season drawing to a close he may not play before the campaign - and his loan stint - ends.

The forward will rehab with the Midlands outfit and has set his sights on being fit for the international set of games this summer. Villa's final match of the season is against Rashford's parent club, Manchester United, so he would miss the clash even if he was fit in time.

As a result his attention has turned to England with Rashford returning to the fold recently, reports the Athletic. Thomas Tuchel named him in his first Three Lions squad back in March after a year out of the team, which saw him miss the Euros last summer.

He started in both of England's World Cup qualifying wins over Albania and Latvia. Tuchel’s side face Andorra in another qualifier on June 7 and then host Senegal in a friendly three days later.

Rashford has made 10 starts and seven substitute appearances since joining Villa in January, coming up with four goals and six assists. His exploits have seen the player picked ahead of Ollie Watkins for some of the crunch games recently, underlining his return to form.

When he was named in the England squad Tuchel said: “I had the feeling that we need to reward him now, we need to feel him, he needs to be close to me, that he does not fall back into old routines. He stepped up his game impressively [at Villa] against the ball. This is the most important point for him – the intensity after ball loss."

Tuchel is known to be a fan of Rashford and targeted him in the past when he was PSG manager. His form at United did decline rapidly and that saw him out of favour with club and country but his renaissance at Villa Park leaves the player and his parent club with a decision to make this summer.

Ruben Amorim cast Rashford aside in the weeks before his exit and Villa have a £40million option if they want to sign the forward permanently. The United boss recently said: “All the players that are on loan, they will return and then the club will decide what to do at the end of the season.

“Yeah, of course (I am pleased about their form). The talent of Rashford, the talent of Antony, all these players, they have to put that on the team. So we are really happy because if you put a player on loan, the best thing for us is for them to perform and they are performing.”
